Optical Luminescent Oxygen

Oxygen probes measure the partial pressure of both dissolved oxygen and gaseous oxygen. Barben Analyzer Technology probes use a special O2 sensitive fluorescent coating which mated with a fiber optic cable. This assembly is built into high grade stainless steel fittings. The oxygen probes show an excellent long-term stability and can withstand rough process conditions. Barben oxygen probes operate in industrial process control of, trace to percent level O2 measurement.

Typical Applications - Gas Phase (g)
  • O2 in hydrocarbon streams
  • O2 detection in nitrogen headers
  • O2 in process streams
  • O2 in nitrogen tank blanketing
  • Trace level oxygen in flare gas
  • Limit of Detection: 0.5 ppm O2 @ 1atm, 20ºC (0.0005 hPa)

Typical Applications - Liquid Phase (l)
  • High pressure produced water Dissolved O2
  • ppb dissolved O2 for waterflood injection
  • Oxygen in methanol and ethanol
  • Oxygen in oils
  • Dissolved O2 in liquid process streams
  • Dissolved O2 in product streams
Limit of Detection: 1 ppb Dissolved O2
  • Fluorescent Quenching +

Oxygen measurement via fluorescent quenching- The presence of oxygen molecules (blue sphere below) shortens the time that light is emitted from the luminophore.
    Oxygen Measurement via fluorescent quenching

Fluorescence with respect to oxygen content - The transmitted light intensity is subjected to AC modulation. Transmitted light is compared with the received light to look for a phase shift. The presence of Oxygen will decrease the phase shift.

    Oxygen Phase Shift

Intensity changes with oxygen - The presence of oxygen causes a faster decay in fluorescence light intensity. The optode output must be matched to the desired oxygen measurement range.
